Al Gore is doing the right thing: global warming is a glaring problem these days. It’s getting hotter year after year! The weather patterns are changing, ocean levels are rising, everything is spewing out destructive gases, and it’s already a disaster! We may soon find New York and a lot of places close to water several meters under that water. The government spends millions doing what they can, but we ordinary people can contribute in a small way. How? Do the following! Unless you and your family want to shop in the Big Apple wearing scuba gear, that is.
1. Car? What car? Try to avoid using it! Use buses or trams. Bicycles will do. You can always hike if it’s close by. Sometimes it’s dangerous not to be in a car, but at least you’ll be spending less and helping the environment at the same time! I ride my bicycle to places I need to go. It’s good exercise, keeps me slim, and is free of carbon monoxide! If you really have to, use cars and light vehicles instead of fuel-guzzling SUVs. You can also promote a carpool for your co-workers, to save gas and build camaraderie.
2. Save paper! Trees help absorb greenhouse gases. Millions of acres are lost every year. What can we do? Use both sides of the paper, of course. Use the back when possible, not take out a new sheet! Use reusable cloth bags or plastic bags when shopping, not paper bags which are easily thrown away. Saving a few pieces of paper isn’t much, but if more people do it, we can save a lot!
3. Turn off the lights! Many power plants still use coal and oil, which spew out harmful gases. Observe Earth Day. Use florescent and low-energy bulbs and turn them off when you don’t need them! Use that blow-dryer only when you need to! Try to buy energy-efficient appliances, which are usually labeled. Insulate your rooms so you use your heater less. If you go out for a while, like if you won a free trip or something, power down your house completely. Not only will you lower your bill, but you’ll help the environment out, too!
4. Vote wisely. If the guy running for the Senate emphasizes on environment-friendly measures, and he means well, vote for him! If he wins, he’ll help the environment. Try to avoid voting candidates who don’t have even a shred of concern about nature. Vote for those who care about the planet. Don’t just think about the planet though. If he’s only caring about the planet and nothing else, he probably doesn’t care about the planet anyway.
5. Spread the word! Tell everyone all the things above. Tell your friends, family, relatives, coworkers, and more. Post it on forums, message boards, and blogs. If even ten out of a hundred listen to you, and one of that ten actually does something, it makes a difference!
See? Saving the environment is easy, keeps you fit, and saves you money! It’s worth it. What environment-friendly tips can you share? Speak up!

Good money-saving advice. I do those myself. However, the theory that humans are causing global warming is a mistake.
Global temperature history has been determined from Vostok, Antarctica ice core proxies with more recent data from thousands of instruments distributed over the planet. This history shows that the average global temperature and the recent rate-of-change of temperature are not unusual. Although, since the temperature went somewhat higher 400 years ago and a few other times during this interglacial period, it could possibly go higher than it is now, the recent temperature profile suggests that the temperature increase stopped ten years ago as it usually has in the past at this temperature. There is substantial climate history data that refutes the theory that atmospheric carbon dioxide contributes to global warming and none that supports it. Thus the assertion that humans are causing global warming is a mistake. This is quickly shown with graphs that were constructed using government provided data (all website referenced so it can be checked) from NOAA at http://www.middlebury.net:80/op-ed/pangburn.html .

If by getting hotter every year you mean colder temperatures since 2001, I guess your right.

There are many simple steps that we can adopt in taking personal responsibility for reducing our carbon emissions. There is a clear scientific consensus on climate change, except amongst scientists funded by the fossil fuel industry. This 2004 article explains the point.
It needs to be appreciated that global temperature variations reflect the superimposed effects both of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions (increasing, and accelerating) and a lower amplitude natural cyclicity in solar insolation (currently entering a relative low).
There is a good analysis here: Climate change in the public debate.
Perhaps your commenters above might like to answer the following questions (from George Monbiot’s book Heat):
1. Does the atmosphere contain carbon dioxide?
2. Does atmospheric carbon dioxide raise the average global temperature?
3. Will this influence be enhanced by the addition of more carbon dioxide?
4. Have human activities led to a net emission of carbon dioxide?
Monbiot continues, “If you are able to answer ‘no’ to any one of them, you should put yourself forward for a Nobel Prize. You will have turned science on its head.”

today, our earth in “red alert” cause of this global warming. You are right, we are can contribute in small way with this tips.

You can also save paper (and money) by using cloth napkins.

Yes, yes. We know that historically, our temperatures rise and fall.
But the amount of CO2 we’re spewing out that forms an insulating blanket to trap surface heat DOES NOT HELP THAT ARGUMENT ONE LITTLE BIT.
All of us in the so-called ‘developed nations’ MUST cut our greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 percent.
Yes. All of us. including the naysayers and the selfish, self-interested individuals who view the whole issue as an Inconvenient Truth.

i see you dont understand economy at all… you assuming if there is a most paper consumption there will be less threes.. and that is WRONG… if people demand more paper.. there will be more threes..
and those who are afraid of greenhouse gasses are just faggots.. really i meant it. i hope one day someono notice that GIANT ORANGE BALL flying in the sky… yep SUN… this is the main problem of GW.. not CO2

i go to the the thrift shops and buy material big enough (dresses, etc.) to make cloth bags to go shopping with instead of using brown paper bags and/or plastic bags. i make handles for the bags, so its easy to carry items, since i am arthritic. it helps the globel warming, landfills, and the different organizations that help people. the material only costs about $1.00. its a win, win situation for everyone

i go to the thrift shops and but material, (dresses, etc) large enough to make bags with handles, so i don’t have to use paper or plastic bags. costs me about $1.00 @. the handles make it easier to carry. the thrift shops make money, there is less paper or plastic to go onto landfills, when i do get plastic bags i use them for garbage, so it is reused. its a win, win situation.

Trams are a form of transportation….FYI it’s “spelled” not spent. Dumbass

It seems funny that “we” as humans are just now trying to do something about saving our planet! We should have been doing all these things all along, but we we’re not thinking about the planet we we’re thinking about ourselves now we’re paying for it with the high gas prices. All I can say is GOD HELP US!!!!!!!!!!

Global warming is a myth!!!! Global pollution and over using resources is another matter all together. They are not tied. The reality is that the CO2 is actually helping keep our planet cooler than it would be w/o the CO2 as the sun’s output has increased over the last several decades. The CO2 acts to reflect some of that energy back into space. So before you condem modern society learn about the BIG picture not a small fringe agenda.
