The Solution To Longevity

Maintaining good health is a lot easier when you have a habitually healthy lifestyle, of course making healthy living a habit is easier said than done.

If you succeed then you may discover the most obvious "no nonsense" solution to longevity.

Whilst there will always be the naysayers who are quick to point out the man who lived down their street that ate healthy his whole life, exercised everyday, only to drop dead aged 39, this is the Exception not the rule and it is worth noting this is an excuse often perpetuated by those seeking excuses to be lazy and eat junk.

The facts are clear, those who eat well and exercise, live longer and suffer less ailments than those who don't. Pretty simple really. The real problem is, as always, eating well and exercising takes genuine effort and time, some people just don't have the inclination to make extra time or put in the hard yards.

It's a personal choice, but for those of you with the courage and determination to live a healthy lifestyle here are the main keys.

Exercise

For some it's the highlight of their day and yet for some it is a chore that is dreaded. Either way there is no escaping effort.

Exercise can be fun and the best way to make sure it's habitual is to incorporate an activity you enjoy into your lifestyle, such as a favorite sport or a nice walk. You don't have to workout like an an Olympic athlete, just keep a steady pace for 30 minutes or more at least three times a week and you'll have it covered.

People think they have to exhaust themselves, but maintaining good cardiovascular health is all about getting out there and doing "something" and it doesn't mean running marathons. Anybody can spare 30 minutes three times a week to take a nice brisk stroll in the park, or to walk/jog/run the dog, or play frisbee with the kids....you get the picture.

Get outside and just start walking.

Eat Right

This is where the majority of confusion lives, in the world of nutrition. You hear something new every day, low fat this and low carb that. Experts tell you one thing and they don't seem to practice what they preach, in the end you scratch your head and prefer the good old days when white bread was healthy and all fat was bad.

The solution is to learn a few useful key principles, with which you can't go wrong.

Here are some basic nutritional guidelines.

*Low Glycemic carbohydrates are the best source of carbs.

*Lean sources of animal based proteins are the best proteins.

*Fruit and vegetables are VERY healthy and should be consumed regularly

*Low fat dairy is best.

*Sugar should be substituted with Splenda

*8 glasses of water a day is the bare minimum, 12-14 is far better.

*Fat is important, salmon, olive oil, flaxseeds, nuts and avocado are good.

*Salt is bad, use potassium salt as a substitute.

*Eat smaller more frequent meals - 5-6 times per day.

*A good meal should consist of 40% Protein 40% Carb 20% Good Fat.

If you stick to these basic rules and forget all the other fancy, new, unproven diets, you can't go wrong.

Common sense solutions are always the best.

Rest

If you eat healthy and exercise, but you don't get adequate rest then it can all be in vain, because rest is when you repair - No rest = No repair.

A mixture of both satisfactory sleep and relaxation are important in giving your body and mind the ability to recover and start fresh each day.

8 hours is often cited as the minimum amount of sleep needed, but bear in mind that this is the minimum amount not necessarily the right amount for you.

Some people need 9-10 hours sleep to perform at their peak, this is often the case for those working in the realm of information based employment or study, but could be anyone. Some lucky individuals feel fresh and invigorated after only 5-6 hours, so as you can see it is highly individual.

Exercising daily is fine, but for those of you who do, make sure you have one day per week where you don't exercise, to give your body a chance to repair.

Living a healthy lifestyle is one of the best choices you can ever make and those you have and continue to do, never regret it.

Eating right, exercising and resting well all combine to keep you in prime health and when you're healthy the world seems so much better. Get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air, eat fresh food andmake the most of what the world has to offer - You'll never look back, I promise.
